As soon as I saw the cover, I knew this book was coming home with me. When I read the description, I knew I HAD to read it.
Happily Ever After is never the end. It's simply a transition (or, some would say, a new beginning). Cinderella is finding out the hard way that this transition or new beginning doesn't always lead to happiness.
We open with Cinderella going to meet with a witch to have her conjure a spell to murder her husband. From inside the witch's cauldron, we see the last few years of Cinderella's life played out before us. A perfect first year of marriage followed by the birth of her first child. The next few years she plays the role of perfect wife. Eventually she realizes the truth behind her marriage.
This book includes her evil stepsisters, who we learn are not evil after all. We have her mice friends, and their side stories can, at times, be more entertaining than the main story! There are so many fairy tales worked in to the story-line and it became a fun game to find them all.
This was my third book club book and it was a hit. It kept us hanging on to the end, making us beg for answers to our questions. If you like a good fairy tale retelling, then you should check this one out. I want to know all of your thoughts and, more than that, I want to know who your favorite character is (mine is the witch, hands down).
Let me know what you think!
