"He's keenly aware of the monsters who share this space with him. In the dark, their eyes gleam like they do in nightmares."
I believe my exact words when I finished were "Holy crap that was good." I didn't want to put it down. It felt like reading an episode of Bones. And the author being an autopsy technician added so much detail you wouldn't have otherwise received.
This is a Psychological Thriller at its best. You get to see in the mind of a serial killer, feel what he feels, and then in the next moment you're transported back to Dr. Wren Muller as she tries to solve the murders. The similarities between the two shocked me. How two people can have such similar traits and be so different is fascinating.
I wish I could tell y'all the plot twist, but you'll have to read the book to find out. It's been a long time since I've read a book and could honestly say I did NOT see the twist coming. I was glad no one was around when I was reading it, because out loud I said "Whoa!" and then just stared at the pages in front of me...for about 5 seconds then I had to keep reading.
I can't wait to read more from this author. I have listened to her co-host the Morbid podcast for several years and now I've started listening to her Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast, so it feels like I know her. I feel like I can say one of my besties published a book. I know she has recently mentioned she plans to write more, and I hope some of her writing includes more of Jeremy and Wren.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I need everyone to go out and grab a copy (because I won't be sharing this one) and let me know your thoughts ASAP.
