Miss Julia Takes Over by: Ann B. Ross

-"Some things do work for good, even those you don't expect to."

-"We were in the hands of the Lord and Jerry Johnson. I prayed to the one and put my trust in the other."

-"I declare, every time I left town, the whole place went to pieces."

-"I just don't have any patience for people who can't exercise a little control."

-"In the dark of the room and the silence that always falls when the lights go out, all I could hear was the whispery sound of sleet against the windows."

-"That's what a full head of steam will do for you, make you so mad that you just stomp on through a layer of ice and sleet and snow like nobody's business."

-"Hazel Marie's eyes nearly popped out of her head, and mine weren't far behind."

-"I declare, people act in the strangest ways when the lights go out."

-"What I had to pass on to them wouldn't be gossip, it would be flat-out undeniable facts. There is a difference, you know."

-"I don't mind paying somebody off, if I get my money's worth."

Y'all know I typically don't care for the second book in any series, but this one was fantastic! (I'm not just saying that because this one included a character named Etta) I LOVE Miss Julia. She was her typical witty, bossy, funny, sarcastic, caring self. And, as usual, she solved all the problems.

One of the things I love most about these books is you don't have to wait to find out the main conflict of the book. You know in the first couple of pages what Miss Julia is having to face. This makes the rest of the book a sort of adventure, with some bumps along the way. And Miss Julia her sassy, southern self, always knows what do to to save the day.

I said this in my review of the first book in this series, but one of the reasons I love this series so much is because I know these characters. I live in a small southern town, and as I'm readying and literally laughing out loud, I can place these characters. They are people I go to church with; they are friends, family friends, or people I see out and about.

Ann B. Ross does a great job bringing her characters to life. She keeps her readers hooked and keeps the story moving forward. I can't wait to to continue the series and watch the relationship between Miss Julia and Sam grow. And to see Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd really start to live.

Anyone who has ever lived in a small town should give these books a try. 5 stars!
