The Hunting Wives by: May Cobb

Book #1 of 2024!

What do bored housewives do when they get together? Why, skeet shoot and drink wine of course!

Bored with the mundane life she always dreamed of, Sophie because infatuated with Margot, a rich (and seemingly mysterious) neighbor. She soon finds herself turning from her friend, husband, and child. And the more she tries to pull away from Margot, the tighter her hold becomes. This begins to unravel the perfect life Sophie has worked so hard to make.

I give this book 3.5 stars. While it has an opening that hooks you, it quickly becomes dull. We are 57% into the book before the conflict is presented to us. Being this far into the book, the conflict is rushed and solved quickly. I would have liked to have seen the conflict drawn out.

I did have an idea about this (but I'm not sure if it's what the author intended). We get to feel Sophie's since of unrest. Her want for more. We begin to understand her pull towards Margot, even though she is detrimental to her relationships. By the time we get to the major conflict, we are craving it. We then engulf ourselves into it, needing all the answers. Something to break up the unrest.

I was told that since I liked the show Desperate Housewives that I would like this book. I can see where there are some similarities, but I do not think this book was for me. If you've read it, let me know what you think! If you're one who enjoyed it, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
