"He'd become a damn country song. Lost his house and wife and dog, and his momma had run off with a scoundrel who would take all their money and leave them in the dust."
While this quote made me laugh, I was not a fan of the book. I will say, I mostly picked this one by the cover. I figured a large, colonial style house and a dog couldn't lead me astray.
I started this after one of my new favorites, and when I couldn't get into it, I put it down until I read a couple more books, thinking I couldn't give it a fair chance after the book I loved. Even after giving it a little break, I found it hard to get into.
I usually enjoy "fake" marriage stories, but this one seemed to be lacking something. It was slow to start. Then, once it picked up, it was like it was all dumped out of a bucket at once. It had some good parts, but the good parts were all crammed together. I will say, I did love Mama Marcelle. I would read any book she was in.
I did find out this is book 4 in a series, so if I had read them in order I might feel differently. But right now, I don't feel the urge to continue the series.
